# An Italian company that builds software in Romania

B&C Associates is registered in Timișoara and owned from Italy. That combination is the whole proposition: Western European commercial expectations, Central European engineering cost, and nobody in the middle translating between the two.

## Why the company exists

The company was registered in June 2018 to do one thing: build software for businesses that had outgrown their spreadsheets but were too small to be interesting to a large consultancy. That is still the work.

What changed since is the second half of the job. Companies kept asking who would explain the thing once it was built. Sending them to a marketing agency meant handing over a product that agency did not understand, and the explanation came back wrong. So the marketing work moved in-house, and the same people who build now also write the positioning.

The AI practice arrived the same way. Clients asked whether a model could read their invoices, and the answer required testing it against their invoices rather than an opinion. That testing became a service.

## Timișoara

Timișoara is a university city in western Romania, closer to Belgrade and Budapest than to Bucharest, and it has been a software city for thirty years. The Politehnica graduates several hundred engineers a year, and the ones who stay have usually worked on products used across Europe.

For an Italian client the practical facts matter more than the history: the same time zone, a three-hour flight from Milan, EU law, EU contracts and EU invoicing. A meeting in person is a day trip rather than an expedition.

## How we work

- **Say the difficult thing first**: If the project is a bad idea, if the budget is short, or if an existing product already does it, you hear that before you hear a proposal. It costs us work and saves both sides a quarter.
- **Small releases over big plans**: A plan is an opinion until something runs. We would rather have a modest thing in production in week five than a complete specification in month three.
- **Write things down**: Scope, price, decisions and the reasons behind them are written and shared. Memory is not a project management method.
- **Own less of the client than we could**: Accounts in your name, code in your repository, documentation good enough for somebody else to take over. A supplier that cannot be replaced is a risk you should not accept.
